MACAW & CONURE ENRICHMENT

Birds in captivity can become bored if there is nothing exciting going on during the day, and this is not a happy life. My internship responsibilities include gathering hibiscus, marigold, rose, sunflowers, drum stick leaves and branches, neem branches, and mulberry branches and hanging them in various bird cages for environmental and sensory enrichment. All of the birds appear to be enjoying this routine, as they spend the majority of the day playing and munching. Enrichment provides them with something productive to do, keeps their minds occupied, and provides them with some physical activity. Engaging them both physically and mentally is critical because birds are intelligent creatures with a wide variety of activities that keep them busy in the wild, but it is our responsibility to keep them busy, healthy, and happy in captivity.
